Study trip across Europe and new adventures

The students of International School Savremena and their teachers spent the last week of March on an unforgettable study trip, taking in the sights of several European cities and enjoying memorable times with their friends. Savremena’s Year 11 students set off on an adventure that led them to Italy and France; a day later, their younger friends headed to Prague and Vienna.

These study trips introduced the students to some of Europe’s most beautiful cities and their landmarks, bringing them face to face with different cultures and traditions.

Czech capital – blend of lavish architecture and unique culture

The first stop of the younger group’s adventure was the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, which people often refer to as Golden Prague. The beauty of its streets and squares was breathtaking, and the stories about Hradčany, St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George’s Basilica took Savremena’s students through the glorious times of one of the most beautiful and oldest cities in central Europe.

Saint Wenceslas Square and the famous Astronomical clock are a real attraction for all tourists. The exciting story about the history and legends of Charles Bridge, ornamented by 30 statues of saints, really impressed Savremena’s students, who did not miss the chance to make a wish and touch the statue of St. John of Nepomuk in order to return to this city famous for its sausages and trdelnik, sweet pastry that Savremena’s students were not able to resist.

Next stop: Imperial Vienna

After two days in Prague, Savremena’s students headed to Vienna, the city that cherishes its history, tradition and cultural heritage. Stunned by the facades of buildings telling their story, they took plenty of photos of Viennese Opera Ball and the Parliament, as well as university buildings, museums and theatres located in the very heart of the city, along with the lavish 12th century St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Savremena’s students completed their adventure in the Austrian capital with a visit to the twin museums that can’t be skipped – the Natural History museum and the Art History museum, and a visit to Schönbrunn castle, the winter residence of Viennese emperors and aristocrats, which took the students back to distant past.

Italy, part 1

For the older students, this year’s adventure first took them to Italy.

Savremena’s students’ first stop in Italy was Verona, the city of eternal love known for the characters of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy. After the stroll along Cappello street and visit to the Arena, cathedral and Erbe, Bra and Signori squares, Savremena’s students went to see Juliet’s house, gathered under her balcony and had their photos with her statues taken, hoping their love wishes would come true.

Having taken myriads of photos next to stunning buildings, Savremena’s students headed to San Remo for the night, before setting off to Nice the next morning.

Lavishness and grandeur of French Riviera

On their study trip, Savremena’s students also visited the cities of the French Riviera. In the region with more than 300 sunny days a year and the recognisable blue colour of the sky and the sea, Nice was a city that could not be left out on this trip.

Savremena’s students took a walk down the Walkway of the English, Masena Square and the city beach and enjoyed the view from one of the most beautiful viewpoints from which they were able to see this pearl of the French Riviera in all its glory.

The visit to Cannes was marked by seeing the famous Palais des Festivals, but during their free time, the students had the chance to see other atractions of this city as well.

The rest of the trip brought even more breathtaking moments, the first of which was Monaco, which fascinated Savremena’s students. What made the greatest impression on them was the Exotic Garden, one of the most beautiful attractions of this principality. St. Nicolas Cathedral and Grimaldi castle made everyone feel as if in a fairytale. After this magical tour, Savremena’s students headed to Monte Carlo, where they had the chance to see the famous hotel and casino ‘Paris”.

All roads lead to Italy

This exciting trip took the student back to Italy for a while. They discovered the beauties of Genoa, a city that developed in the northernmost part of Genoa Bay and became the closest Mediterranean port for many cities. The Cathedral, Columbus House and Ferrari Square were only some of the landmarks that made a strong impression on Savremena’s students. The Italian adventure continued in Milan, city famous for fashion and the second largest city in Italy. Sforza Castle, Duomo Square and gothic cathedral, La Scala, Gallery of Vittorio Emanuele II left Savremena’s students speechless and enriched their – and their phones’ – memories with images of these fascinating sights.

The last stop on this exciting trip, which meant that the adventure was soon to be over, was Venice. St Mark’s Square and Cathedral, Doge’s Palace, The Bridge of Sighs, Rialto Bridge, Grand Canal, and the church Santa Maria della Salute made a strong impression on Savremena’s students, who attentively listened to historical facts about them, trying to memorise as much as they could, so that they would share them with others later.

Savremena’s students returned to Belgrade richer in new knowledge and experience, as well as new and strengthened friendships, bringing with them memories that are sure to be a gladly revisited topic for many years to come.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
