Career Counselling Platform: Professional orientation and career counselling for Year 13 students

Secondary school is hardly an end in itself; as one progresses through this phase of education, the question looms larger and larger – what next? The next educational step has quite a lot to do with career options, so it is very important that the students make the right decision when the time is right. At Savremena Gimnazija, when it comes to this, expert assistance is readily available, because Year 13 students’ education includes professional orientation as a means of discovering their affinities, aspirations and talents in order for them to continue moving in the right direction.

What is Career Counselling Platform?

Career Doctor is a support programme designed for everyone who needs qualified consultation when it comes to further education and the choice of future profession. It helps Savremena Gimnazija students get ready for university time – it is there to ensure that the next phase of education will be spent at a faculty that they actually like; the one that is truly their best possible choice.

Testing at school prior to final faculty decision

Thanks to the breadth of education Savremena Gimnazija provides, Year 13 students have an opportunity to do tests that help them find out what areas suit them best – social or natural sciences; whether an artistic streak is dominant, or perhaps a talent for sports, or they are more inclined towards medicine, or perhaps humanistic or technical disciplines.

Savremena Gimnazija students get a set of specialised tests which help them resolve any dilemmas they might be facing regarding faculty enrolment, academic endeavours and studying itself, as well as their future career, upon completion of their secondary education at Savremena Gimnazija, with the Student Package, which is free for Savremena Gimnazija students, while it otherwise costs 10,000 dinars

This approach to professional orientation involves as many as seven types of tests:

  1. Professional interests test
  2. Professional skills test
  3. Learning style test
  4. Study abroad preparedness test

Answering specific questions

Through these tests, the students get a clearer picture when it comes to the question from the beginning: “What next?” Thanks to the tests that assess their interests, personality, abilities and general knowledge, they will learn what professions suit them best and receive answers to the following questions:

  • which professional realm suits them best,
  • what is required in order for their wishes to fit their abilities and their results at school,
  • whether it would be better to study in Serbia or abroad,
  • how to prepare on time for the challenges that await at the university (tests, exams, stressful exam periods),
  • and finally, what work positions suit them best.

These are only some of the answers the students get in the course of receiving expert assistance when it comes to making a very important decision. Savremena Gimnazija strives to help its students build a successful future and choose the right professions for themselves.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum

Teaching is supported by the interactive whiteboards and educational software, whereas practice exercises research and critical thinking.
