Since 2015, Savremena Gimnazija has implemented an outdoor lesson programme. Outdoor lessons are an interdisciplinary blend of subjects through fieldwork, i.e. practical application of theoretical knowledge through observing, measuring, linking and project implementation.
Year 11 students are currently visiting the Manasija monastery, the Miniature Park in Despotovac, the Buk waterfall and the Resava cave. The students have prepared numerous tasks for the students: on-site research of medieval monasteries and the Nemanjić dynasty, observing flora and fauna through Latin, interpreting Vasko Popa’s poem “Manasija”, exploring why certain species are endangered in caves and studying the importance of the Buk waterfall.
Year 13 students are visiting Vršac, Bela Crkva and Deliblato Sands. After a brief tour of Vršac, they will get to know the most important landmarks (City Park, Saint Gerhard Cathedral, Vršac Brewery, the Sterija National Theater, Bishop's Palace Of The Banat Eparchy), after which they will visit Vršac Castle and enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the surrounding vineyards and mountains. In the village of Jasenovo, they will visit the open museum Sculpture Park, after which they will continue the journey to Bela Crkva, where they will have lunch and visit the local lakes. At Deliblato Sands, or to be more precise, at the Čardak site near the village of Deliblato, they will visit the sand dunes and get to know the unique ecosystem of the continental steppe in the inland dune. During the last outdoor lesson, they will get to know the Danube and its main features.
Outdoor lessons are designed to meet the interests and needs of students who explore their environment. This way, the students engage with the environment to gain new experiences. It is precisely these experiences and activities that greatly motivate the students and teachers to learn and teach.
