Savremena’s Year 2 students learn about internet safety

Teachers Zorana Putniković and Jelena Spasojević and their second-year students covered an interesting and important subject in a lesson from the elective Language, Media and Culture course – how to protect the identity of children on the internet. The objective of the lesson was to further familiarise the students and the young people in general with the topic of digital literacy, with a special emphasis on personal data protection and social network misuse prevention.

Internet security

The discussion encompassed a number of interesting facts about social networks, as well as topics such as content sharing on social networks and privacy settings, the misuse of private data, legal regulations in this area, the protection of minors from any potentially dangerous content, and facts regarding harmful and illegal content, etc. The students took active part in the debate, and after the discussion on these subjects, they were able to make their own assessment regarding their level of safety on the Internet by filling out a questionnaire on social network safety.

This lesson was a part of a series of activities marking the Children’s Week, as a means of support to young people when it comes to the safety of children and young people on the Internet. At the end of the lesson, the students wrote supportive messages for their peers on the board. As they liked the lesson very much, it was agreed that this topic should be extended to more lessons – after all, the essence of this realm is of utmost importance: safety and well-being of children.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
