The history of this Cross-country

The first Radio Belgrade cross-country was held on 20 April 1991 at the Horse-racing ground of Sremska Mitrovica. The event developed quickly and having become the biggest event of its kind in the southern-eastern part of Europe, it was named after the media broadcast company – the RTS Cross-country.

The number of competitors from our country and abroad kept growing year after year.

In 2000 the RTS Cross-country was extended with the event Let Serbia run (today's the RTS Cross-country Across Serbia) and on 15 April, 147 Serbian municipalities took part with 518,700 students running at the same time.

Only a year later,on 7 April 2001, the RTS Cross-country – Diaspora was held. The children of Serbian origin ran in eight European countries: France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Romania, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

We use this opportunity to commend all the students who in large numbers took part in the cross-country, and their sports spirit they demonstrated.

Sport activities boost physical and intellectual development

Today most activities are done while sitting, which affects health a great deal. Therefore, it is important that every individual gets some exercise, on a recreational basis, throughout their lives. Besides, sport contributes to the development of intelligence and more efficient studying. Because of that, here, at Savremena, we devote so much attention to regular sport activities – through regular PE lessons as well as numerous extracurricular activities.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
Contemporary in any sense of the word, our school offers functional knowledge and quality preparation for tertiary education in Serbia and abroad. Implementing modern and creative teaching in the classroom, where the teachers’ pedagogy and students’ performance are aligned with the highest academic standards for the high-school finals, our school develops linguistic, mathematical, scientific, artistic, cultural, technical and ICT competence, which is a prerequisite for further education and professional development. Teaching is supported by the interactive whiteboards and educational software, whereas practice exercises research and critical thinking.
