Second-grade students from Savremena Gimnazija who were attending the elective subject Language, Media, and Culture, participated in a workshop organized by the "EU Info Center." The topic of this inspiring workshop was "How to consume media—how to truly know what is being advertised to us," and the lecturer was a journalism professor, Nemanja Rašić. In an interesting manner, with numerous examples and advice, Professor Rašić pointed out to the students all the pitfalls into which we can fall as everyday media users, primarily in the context of modern media (social networks, portals, platforms, etc.).
What Individuals Can do to Guide the Media Towards its Role
Our students actively participated in the workshop, asking questions and discussing the role of media in our lives. They gained knowledge about how the media functions, the impact of media on daily life, but, most importantly, they understood what individuals can do to guide the media towards its role—providing objective, accurate, and timely information. Professor Rašić also spoke to them about media manipulations and how to recognize them, so that they can always distinguish between information and misinformation.
As this is just one in a series of lectures on media literacy organized by the "EU Info Center," we believe that attending any future workshop will be equally inspiring and beneficial for our high school students, just as this one was.
