An exciting visit by the students of Savremena High School to the Historical Museum marked a day full of discoveries, learning, and cultural richness. At the exhibition titled "Eagle, Lion, and Lily - Heraldry of Medieval Serbian Lands," students had the opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of heraldry and symbolic coats of arms that have marked the history of medieval Serbian lands.
Understanding Coats of Arms and Symbols Through the Centuries: Students as Researchers
The exhibition presented twenty coats of arms of the most significant ruling and noble families from Serbia, Bosnia, Hum, and Zeta, who ruled during the period from the 9th to the 15th century. Coats of arms ranging from the oldest Serbian ruling family, Vlastimirović, to the Branković family, from which the last titular Serbian despots originated, were displayed.
The visit allowed students to discover deeply rooted symbols and traditions of Serbian heraldry, exploring the meaning and symbolism of each coat of arms.
