On Monday, 4 June, 2024, at 6:00 PM, a panel discussion titled "What Comes After Graduation?" was held at Dom kulture Studentski grad, aimed at students of the Faculty of Geography, University of Belgrade, as well as other interested students from different fields.
The discussion involved six former students of the Faculty of Geography who are now successful professionals in various fields such as demography, environmental protection, spatial planning, tourism, and geography. In addition to them, the discussion was also attended by Professor Ivan Matejić from Savremena gimnazija, a geographer. He presented his professional development path to the audience, discussing job search processes, experiences in the scientific sphere, as well as teaching and pedagogical work with high school students.
Presence of Faculty Leadership
The panel was attended by the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Šećerov, as well as the vice-dean for education, Prof. Dr. Snežana Đurđić. Throughout the discussion, students posed numerous questions to the participants, inquiring about working in schools, challenges of working with new generations, the influence of the internet and social media, as well as their passion for geography. Professor Ivan Matejić emphasized the importance of loving the job, especially when working with children, applying various pedagogical and psychological methods in working with each individual, and keeping up with the times in terms of digital technologies and scientific developments.
After the discussion, an informal cocktail and mingling session took place, where the speakers continued the conversation about education and the challenges it presents today. All the participants agreed that such discussions are necessary for today's students, as well as for the future, as they shed light on what awaits young people after completing their education and embarking on their job search.
