My business story: Two successful professionals share their experiences with Savremena’s students

The students of Year 11 and Year 12 had an exceptional chance to meet two business people during their interdisciplinary lesson which connected Sociology, Economics and Global Perspectives.

Melanija Pavlović and Jugoslav Isaković talked to the students who were eager to hear their business stories on working for big, multinational companies, working abroad and the gender-related issues that arise at work.

Determination can make even the most difficult path less intimidating

Melanija is employed as the Corporate Affairs and Communication Director in ENMON and she has been working in the construction business for more than a decade now. As she was introducing her achievements and the projects she has worked on so far, the students awaited eagerly to pose the questions they had prepared in advance. The variety of questions was evidence of International School Savremena’s students’ diverse interests, as well as their ability to synthesise their knowledge from different subjects.

Melanija discussed the process of constructing a building, the required legal framework, as well as the impact of certain constructions on society as a whole. However, the most intriguing topic for the students was that of women in the construction business and the obstacles they have to overcome on their path to success.

Her lecture proved that the empowerment of young minds who have yet to choose their academic and business path in life is essential.

Innovation in business and education

The aim of the lesson was not only to be interesting and educational, but also to introduce yet another innovative element into the classroomJugoslav works as the area product manager in Alcon, Switzerland and resides there so he addressed the students via Skype call.

Apart from the dynamics this call added to the lesson, it also served the purpose of emphasising how technology is used for both educational and business purposes. The students were very creative with their questions, from the nature of his work and his company to his opinion on the immigrant experience and the global changes in the labour market.

Raising awareness on burning topics

The students who take Economics, Global Perspectives and Sociology combined their knowledge of the given subjects and prepared thought-provoking questions related to the widely-discussed contemporary issues. This lesson proved that group work promotes one’s creativity and critical thinking skills.

Intriguing and educational lectures such as this one will continue to be an integral part of school life at Savremena, since they encompass creativity, knowledge and dedication as values cherished by International School Savremena and its students.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
