The Cultural Centre Sirmijumart has been organising the International Young Poets Festival Imagination and dreams for 12 years. Children and youth from our country as well as young poets from abroad, whose poems are translated into and published in Serbian. This year more than 300 poems of authors from different countries were received: North Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina – the Republika Srpska, Montenegro, Croatia.
Savremena Gimnazija is proud of its Year 3 student, Uroš Tirnanić, who, despite a very strong competition, succeeded in winning the creativity award, more importantly, at the International festival. The poem which brought Uroš triumph is:
You are my imagination
Imagination is when in winter
I can feel the scent of snowflakes
that blossom in your hair
When in spring I catch the restless breeze
ruffling shiny locks
Imagination is when, in the summer haze,
behind your ear, instead of a ribbon,
I tame a barefoot, bright-coloured butterfly
and you give me a strawberry-red scented kiss
Imagination is when in autumn we can hear moonlight
fall on a faded leaf
and our tears of joy paint happiness across dull rain
Imagination being old while young
being young while old
But either case, you stay
eternally young, eternally beautiful
‘cause you are my imagination
And all the other unfulfilled wishes and dreams become insignificant
compared to
the moment of beauty of our embrace
that fills darkness with stars and sparkle fireflies,
that can trigger butterflies of
the flickering world of love.
Awards were given to the best young poets within each age group and they were commended. But even the fact that a poem is published within the festival’s collection of works means that a bright future awaits a young poet, and that is exactly what we wish for Uroš, hoping he will achieve that.
