Matej Petrović, a student of Savremena Gimnazija and a rugby player of Rugby Club "Rad", as the first on the list of scorers, contributed to his team winning the championship of Vojvodina in the category U16 cadets on September 16, without losing or conceding a touchdown (try). They achieved the same success the previous week when Matej also excelled in the junior U17 category.
A rugby player with great prospects
Matej has been playing for the Rugby Club "Rad" for five years in the position of second-row or wing player. This student’s talent is reflected in the fact that he plays in both the cadet and junior categories. The fact that the site rugby.rs ranked him in the top ten players of the U16 cadets also speaks of his success.
On that occasion, this is what others said about him:
He is a disciplined player, excellent in positioning in defence and attack. In defence, he is a good tackler, who, due to his speed, can block the linemen equally well when mismatch situations happen. He is a player who has great prospects and whose progress we will follow carefully.
When asked what rugby means to him and why he chose that sport as the one to which he will dedicate himself, Matej Petrović answered:
I started loving this sport precisely because of the physical contact, discipline and teamwork. Everyone should find something that moves them, that makes them happy. I found it – it's rugby, which brings me a lot of positive energy, desire and will for further progress!
A successful sportsman, but also an exemplary student of Savremena Gimnazija
In addition to being a successful sportsman, Matej is an excellent and exemplary student of class III-1. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Matej on his outstanding achievements and we are looking forward to his future successes!
Students of Savremena Gimnazija have once again shown that, if the desire is strong enough, it is quite possible to harmonise school and extracurricular activities and achieve great results in both fields.
