Students Develop Leadership Skills Through a Simulation of the United Nations
This September, Belgrade hosted the LEAMUN (Model United Nations) conference, organized by students from International School, ITHS, and Savremena Gimnazija. The event took place from September 20 to 22 and offered participants a unique experience in leadership, collaboration, and raising global awareness.
The conference included five different committees, each discussing current global issues. The Model United Nations provided students with the opportunity to improve their public and formal speaking skills, expand their knowledge of politics, and gain a deeper understanding of how the United Nations operates.
Five Committees Discussed Global Issues and Fostered Leadership Among Participants
The topics addressed by the committees included:
- Human Rights Council: Improving security and human rights in Africa
- Security Council: Resolving the crisis in the South China Sea
- General Assembly: De-escalation of tensions in the Western Balkans
- Narcotics Commission: Tackling the production and trafficking of cocaine in Central and South America
- Crime Prevention Committee: Preventing and responding to terrorism through national and international strategies
In addition to intellectual discussions, participants had the opportunity to meet new people and take part in evening social activities organized by the LEAMUN team. This conference is recognized as an exceptional extracurricular activity, enriching students' portfolios and enhancing their chances of admission to universities.
Due to limited spaces, the organizers have invited all interested students to join future LEAMUN conferences and take the opportunity to be part of this transformative event. LEAMUN 2024 was another step toward developing young leaders who will shape the future.
