Christmas recital of the students of Savremena International School

The theatre of the Children’s Belgrade Cultural Centre was a place to be at on the 18th of December 2015. On that night, many of the parents, siblings, grandparents and friends of our students gathered at the theatre to attend the first performance of the students of Savremena. Our students prepared a play to mark the end of the previous period in a nice manner and take us to the next year in cheerful spirit.

This lovely gathering was a good excuse to organise a charity event - to raise funds for ‘the butterfly children’ who suffer from Epidermolysis bullosa. A significant aid had been collected, which made us proud of our guests and students.

The students at the level of the task

_P7A1030Inspired by one of the songs by Djordje Balašević, ‘Forgive me, Catherine’, the play was conceived as a love story between two high-school teenagers filled with minor and sweet problems and doubts typical of that age. With the help of their mentors, the students worked hard in the last two months to prepare the play as a part of their performance arts club.

Our protagonists, Dunja Nešković and Andrija Džambazović, did a great job, but we mustn’t forget other roles played by the following students: Jelisaveta Nedeljković, Ana Petrović, Aleksandar Kosanović, Viktor Đurić, Stefan Glišović, Teona Banović, Dušan Đorić and Marko Radojković, as well as our Cambridge students Darija Vuković, Una Grzunov, Iva Šušić and Leona Nikoliqi, who performed sketches in English.

Likewise, we also have to mention those students who were part of the choir and who sang songs to embellish the first and the last scene.

_P7A1036There is no doubt that each and every student, regardless of how big or important his role was, contributed to making the show entertaining and the audience happy and satisfied. The range of talents - singing, playing instruments, acting - displayed by the students of Savremena was ample and it provoked a heartfelt excitement in everyone present in the theatre.

The smile on the faces of our dear and numerous guests as well as positive comments which were launched after the performance were a clear sign that the members of the performing arts club had debuted successfully. Many of them found themselves on the stage for the first time, but they were able to overcome the stage fright and act with great determination.

A valuable help was collected for their peers

_P7A1115The students of Savremena International School, helped by their teachers, endeavoured to make creative and imaginative Christmas cards as well as to prepare delicious cakes and sweets which they sold in the lobby of the Children’s Cultural Centre. The funds raised were entirely allocated to their peers suffering from Epidermolysis bullosa, hoping that this aid would enhance the quality of their childhood.

In this way, the students gathered a significant sum of money for ‘butterfly children’, but what’s more important, they showed how big their hearts are and how willing they are to work and put effort to help others and make their holidays more enjoyable. We are very proud of our students and their humane side.

Thunderous applause at the end

_P7A1232It was clear that our students are talented, hardworking and kind children who can go far in life if they are determined and disciplined. We are convinced that a bright future is waiting for them. A strong, deserved applause at the end and a call for an encore were a confirmation of all the above said. Our students, of course, came out to the stage and bowed for the second time.

Another acknowledgment of the success were the praises of everyone present at the theatre directed to our students for the effort they put into making the cards and sweets, but also for the pleasant and Christmassy atmosphere which filled the air of the Children’s Cultural Centre.

Well done to our students!

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
