A blend of knowledge and creativity at an interdisciplinary art and geography class

The interdisciplinary class entitled “Clouds and Creations” fused the ideas of geography teacher Ivan Matejić and art teacher Ana Manojlović, thus allowing Savremena’s students to express both their knowledge and creativity through a unique blend of geography and art.

Even though the lesson focused on cloud and fog formation which may remind some of gloomy weather, the class itself was the complete opposite - cheerful, inspirational and highly productive.

Upon learning how fog, smog and clouds are formed as well as the types of clouds that occur in nature, students moved on to the creative portion of the lesson.

Realying on their creativity and newly-acquired knowledge about clouds, students drew the different cloud types like Cumulonimbus and Cirrostratus. In addition to providing them with inspiration and possible ways to render the subject matter, art teacher Ana Manojlović was of course there to help students find the right technique to make the clouds appear as though they could float off the canvas at any moment.

When teaching is able to tap into the imagination and creativity of students, inspire them to use their newly-ackquired information and present it visually, that guarantees that what is learned will also be retained in the long run.

After such an experimental class, along with useful knowledge our students have a number of creative drawings to attest to their interesting and productive learning experience.
