An exciting Researchers’ Night for Savremena’s students

On Friday, 30 September, Savremena’s students and their teachers enjoyed the Researchers’ night, an event dedicated to the popularisation of science through a mix of learning and entertainment. In an interactive way, they met the scientists and got acquainted with their achievements, and found out how great discoveries are made.

The current migrant crisis in Europe inspired the organisers of the seventh Researchers’ Night to deal with the subjects of migrations and routes.

And what were the routes of Savremena’s students in this night? These showpieces were the most memorable.

Where biology meets programming

Amidst the variety of interesting topics all over the city, Savremena’s students stayed at Kalemegdan the longest; the showpiece Count me if you dare turned out to be quite attractive.

Here, they learned what microorganisms look like when they are spread on a nutrient medium, how they can use their phones to count microorganisms, and why hand disinfection is very important.

The great attraction of zombies and space destinations

Do zombies really exist?

In the animal world, they do indeed, as the students could see from the photos of parasitoids and their hosts, and hear in the lecture on the mechanisms the parasitoids use to hypnotise and daze the host.

At the stand Meet the real zombies, the students learned about the difference between parasites and parasitoids, and about the things these organisms do to take advantage of their host.

Space destinations left a great impression on Savremena’s students, too. Young researchers showed the students how Mars can be colonised, and what needs to be done if they want to start living on another planet.

A fun and educational experience

Numerous scientific ventures that Savremena’s students witnessed during the Researchers’ Night developed a real scientific spark in our students. The exciting experiments left a strong impression on the students, and the new knowledge served as an incentive to be even more attentive when it comes to their science lessons, which will provide a better understanding of the world around them.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum

Implementing modern and creative teaching in the classroom, where the teachers’ pedagogy and students’ performance are aligned with the highest academic standards for the high-school finals, our school develops linguistic, mathematical, scientific, artistic, cultural, technical and ICT competence, which is a prerequisite for further education and professional development. Teaching is supported by the interactive whiteboards and educational software, whereas practice exercises research and critical thinking.
