Students improve their Spanish and history skills with “The Queen of Spain”

On Wednesday, 29 March, Savremena’s students enjoyed the new film by the Spanish director Fernando Trueba, “The Queen of Spain”, at the Cineplexx cinema. This was an excellent opportunity for those who study Spanish at school to improve their skills, while the rest enjoyed experiencing history in a different way, first-class acting and the beauty of the leading actress, Penelope Cruz.

Throwback to Franco’s regime from the ‘50s

This time, the Academy Award winner from Spain, whose previous works include films such as “Belle Epoque” (which won an Oscar for the best foreign film) “Chico and Rita”, “Calle 54”, as well as “Opera prima” (which won an award at the Venice Film Festival), surprised the audience with a slightly different setting.

Macarena Granada, an American actress of Spanish descent, who returned to her home country in the 1950s to shoot a film about queen Isabella, was excellently portrayed by the charming Penelope Cruz. Savremena’s students revised what they knew about the turbulent period in Spanish history during the regime of Francisco Franco. All this was accompanied by an unusual humour which runs throughout the two-hour long film.

In addition to this, Fernando Trueba was this year’s guest of honour at the 45th International Film Festival, and during his visit to Belgrade, he was awarded the “Gold Seal”, the highest recognition of the Yugoslav Film Archive for exquisite contribution to the art of film-making.

Combination of education and fun

Combining fun and education is the best way to learn new things and enrich the knowledge you already have. Thanks to frequent visits to numerous social and cultural events, Savremena’s students are able to expand their knowledge, which, acquired in this way, stays forever.

Taking into consideration that the students themselves point out that they find such extra-curricular activities especially appealing and educational, Savremena strives to organise them as often as possible, because learning is a lot more than leafing through books and studying theory.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
