Lecture on peer violence and juvenile delinquency at Savremena International School

On Wednesday, 19 April, Savremena’s students had the chance to actively participate in a lecture on “Peer violence and juvenile delinquency”, held by juvenile delinquency police inspector Marija Stanković on behalf of the Criminal Investigations Directorate. On this occasion, the students learned valuable information about how the law treats juvenile criminal offenses and how they can have an impact not only on their own personal security, but on the security of their friends as well.

How to recognise and react to violence?

In collaboration with other ministries, institutions and organisations, the Ministry of Interior carries out preventive campaigns and programmes so as to enhance security culture in children. This is why police officers from the Department for the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency prepared an interesting lecture, which awoke the interest of Savremena’s students and made them think about violence and ways how to deal with it.

The students learnt about different forms of violent behaviour. Inspector Marija made an effort to thoroughly explain how to recognise violent behaviour, and advised them on how to behave if they suffer or witness violence.

In a survey they had filled out prior to the lecture and through numerous questions, Savremena’s students showed willingness to discuss this topic. Their prejudice-free approach made this presentation even better, and showed that they already have a developed awareness regarding the threats and unsafe behaviour that we, unfortunately, witness all too often.

In order to provide a secure and safe environment for its students, Savremena will continue to support such events and educate and prepare students for the challenges they may face in the future. This is why on Friday, the students will visit Dadov Theatre and see the play “Violence”, which depicts the fate of Aleksa Janković, a boy whose tragic story shook the whole of Serbia.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
