A truly different first day of school at International School Savremena

For the third year in a row, International School Savremena has made the first day of school memorable and unforgettable for its students. This year’s reception of students was the biggest one so far, and Savremena made sure that all the students, together with their teachers, start this school year in excitement and anticipation for the adventures to come.

At the entrance, the students were welcomed by school life coordinators Jelisaveta Veselinović and Sofija Šakić, and received their Savremena School Starter Sets with new uniforms, regulations, notebooks and pens.

Reunion with classmates and teachers

The first two days of the reception were marked by the welcome back ceremony for Savremena’s older and more experienced students in Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13. Although they surely had a lot of fun during summer, they were looking forward to starting the new school year full of unforgettable experiences.

Since they were eager to share the moments that made this summer special for them, their teachers came up with an exciting game called I know what you did last summer. In this game, the students had to use their imagination and try to guess how their teachers had spent their summer, and then write a short story and share it with their friends and teacher via the Spiral application.

As their creative and unusual stories about how the Spanish teacher Milica Ivanović danced flamenco in Barcelona, or the maths teacher tried to overcome his fear of teaching teenagers, appeared on the smartboard one by one, the classroom filled with laughter.

Welcoming the new generation in a fun and exciting way

Friday was reserved for a special formal reception of the new generation of Year 10 students, who showed a lot of excitement and anticipation to meet new friends and teachers, and start their adventure at Savremena.

The school principal Svetlana Belić Malinić addressed the new students to bid them a warm welcome, after which she handed over to their class teacher, Ljubica Krstić, who explained the instructions for the first game they were going to play. In the game, the teachers introduced their subjects in the form of riddles they had prepared, and the students had the task to guess which subjects they taught. The students enthusiastically tried to work out what the subjects hidden behind riddles such as “the subject in which multiplication and division are the same thing”, or “the language of logic” were.

After meeting the teachers, the new generation of students were also introduced to the school coordinators, Nikola Samac and Tatjana Vilček, who had another interesting game for them. Since knowing and respecting school rules plays an important role in maintaining harmony at school, they thought of an interesting way to present them to the students. In groups, the students created post-it notes on the iPads, where they wrote their ideas about what rules their dream school should have, and then shared their ideas with other groups so that they could discuss them together.

International School Savremena - a place students love

Positive atmosphere, excitement and laughter remained on the students’ faces throughout the entire reception ceremony, showing that they couldn’t wait to come back to school and set off on a new high school adventure with their new friends.

We wish them many more unforgettable moments like this one at International School Savremena!

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
