A poem of the student of Savremena Gimnazija Uroš Tirnanić was published in the e-edition of the famous German publishing house Aufbau Verlag. The German Federal Foreign Office launched a project to publish an ebook where young authors around the world were invited to share their dreams, hopes and desires under the motto “I have a dream”. Uroš’s poem was chosen among the works of young people between the ages of 15 and 19 from all over the world (Namibia, India, Romania, Italy, Japan, Columbia, Nigeria, Slovenia, Singapore, USA, etc.).
Uroš’s poem is the only poem from Serbia that has found its place in this collection, and you can read it here, on page 770.
Read Uroš’s poem in English:
Somewhere ... Where I Haven’t Been
While through life I swiftly go
Sometimes I do wonder so
How much farther yet to go,
Whether or not I could
The places where I haven’t stood:
A shimmering star that glitters in gold,
A wing of a bird, all fiery and bold,
A silent dew on blossoms red,
A seashell sleeping on the ocean’s bed,
In the kingdom of fish and corals
Picturesque.
Now I ask you, too,
Where to go that’s new,
And will I have seen
Where I still haven’t been:
The soul of the wind
That whispers secrets
To spring blossoms
In a fairy land so awesome,
On a new planet
From a strange tale
Where little green men
Look like and live on human scale,
In a strange city
Where all is good
No wickedness and no sorrow, as it should,
Where all love each other, really,
And say brother to one another dearly.
I’d like to ask her
Whether going is worth it
And if I reach it in May
The places I have yet to stay:
In her smile,
Rainy, fantastical
Her shiny eye so magical
In her head
In her dream and
Awaken all the same,
In her heart locked off,
In her embracement soft,
So far away, far away…
We are proud of our student Uroš Tirnanić. We believe that this achievement is just the first step toward international literary renown, and that it won’t be his last!
