Lara Veselinović, a Savremena Gimnazija student from the class I-6, participated in the international ISMUN conference, held at the International School between June 11 and 13.
“International School Model United Nations” is an academic activity which enables students to engage in an interesting challenge brought by a simulated United Nations debate. The students take the roles of committee heads and delegates to discuss burning current global issues using communicative skills, considerable knowledge and diplomatic approach. The students representing a particular country are expected to deal with a problem taking into account the existing legislation and policy of the country, therefore they are encouraged to consider a problem from different angles.
“Participating in the ISMUN is a precious experience”
Lara was the delegate of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, representing Columbia.
“This was my first participation in the United Nations Model and I can say for sure that I am overjoyed. I managed the situation easily because I’ve had the experience with the European Youth Parliament (EYP) debates, and the operating principle is somewhat similar.”
I did like the atmosphere created by the chairpersons on one side and by the other delegates and volunteers on the other. My task was not an easy one as I represented the country with a very high level of narcotics consumption and production, but I believe that I did it really well because our final resolution was the best and included all the necessary areas. Besides, I learnt a lot of new things, got familiar with some new views and ways of thinking, which opened to me another window to the world. I heard about ISMUN through my school and do hope that I will have the opportunity to be a delegate of ISMUN or another MUN the very next year because this was an exceptional experience that I’ll remember for a long time”, said a Savremena Gimnazija student Lara Veselinović.
We wish Lara success and believe that her achievements will encourage other students to participate in similar activities.
