On Saturday, 9 October, Savremena celebrated its School Day and the school’s patron saint, Saint John the Theologian, by breaking bread at the Church of the Ascension.
On Monday, 11 October, the students and the school staff celebrated through a special ceremony dedicated to the values of togetherness and harmony cherished at school. Students Uroš Tirnanić (first place), Lara Veselinović (second place) and Tamara Matović (third place) were awarded as authors of the best literary works submitted for the School Day and patron’s day celebration competition.
Celebrating Saint John the Theologian – a feast of youth, knowledge and achievement
On the day of Saint John the Theologian, the youngest of the 12 apostles, who faithfully followed the Lord Jesus and witnessed all his earthly miracles, Savremena celebrated its School Day and its patron saint, through a programme adequate for the coronavirus pandemic conditions. Once again, the participants of the programme showed their knowledge, youth and achievement, embodied in this saint’s symbol – a white eagle, also depicted on the school’s logo.
The white eagle’s colour and poise represent youth, and its strength and dignity – a young man on the way to discovery. The elements forming the semicircle represent the horizon, while the eagles/students, leaving behind the challenges of the seas, the mountains and the plains, ambitiously fly towards the sun – towards new academic and life achievements. This is the allegorical meaning of Savremena’s logo.
Cultivating tradition, Savremena’s students preserve true values and emphasise the importance of love, knowledge and kindness. These are their guiding stars in everyday modern life, reflecting the thought spread by their patron saint.
