Registration for Brainfinity, a problem solving competition for secondary school students and primary school students in Years 5 through 8 is underway. The competition this spring will gather young problem-solvers from all of Europe, and you can be one of them!

Brainfinity develops in students key skills necessary for successful future
Last year Brainfinity gathered a large number of teams, not only from Serbia, but from Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia that tremendously enjoyed the challenges and thrilled the jury with their creativity, resourcefulness and collaboration.
The goal of the Brainfinity competition is to equip students to embrace the project-oriented education principles and the knowledge they have acquired in school apply in the familiar context.
“At the Brainfinity competition I’ve learnt that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to if I try hard enough”, says Aleksa Gavrilović, a student and the winner of Brainfinity 2020.
At the Brainfinity competition, students apply the knowledge of physics, mathematics, logic and other subjects in an informal and relaxed environment, while using computers, mobile phones, iPads and other gadgets to solve the presented problems. This kind of mental challenges develops in children exploration-oriented spirit, critical thinking, better engagement, enhanced creativity and key Pisa skills for the 21 century.
Professor Ivan Anić, the competition author and a full time jury member, states that this competition enables the change in perception regarding knowledge acquisition.
“During the Brainfinity competition, children get to grips with real-life problems and, in this way, mathematics becomes functionally applicable.
What is the Brainfinity competition like?
The competition has three phases, so students at the Brainfinity challenge solve the Bainfinity problems online, wherever they are, and after that the competition finals are in Belgrade, Serbia.
But in order to enter the Brainfinity challenge, firstly, it is necessary for teams to register for the competition and solve one out of two problems which they will receive through email upon their registration.
To take part in Brainfinity no special preparation is needed, nor any special previous knowledge, but it has turned out that better results are achieved by teams who have already become familiar with the type of problems appearing in the competitions. The teams that reach the finals can win additional points and to do that their school mates, friends and family can help them through Facebook sharing function or clicking “like” on Instagram. As this is the competition that encourages creativity, the teams get points for the most inventive logo and team name as well.

Problem solving is one of the most efficient teaching methods which contributes to students’ development. Unlike the other conventional school competitions, at the Brainfinity competition participants are fully engaged, free from stress and fear of mistakes while solving the problems, because there is not just one correct answer. This type of competition stimulates development of multiple intelligences in children, therefore it is appropriate for all types of learners: the creative, the logical, geeks, the intuitive ones.. Every one of them contributes in their own unique way to the solution of a problem.
