PURPLE LOVE
(a poem dedicated to Gordana Brajović)
Gordana dwells
in purple poems,
which tread across the sky.
Gordana lives
on pale blue clouds,
with purple raindrops
coming down on us.
Gordana,
on a starry pillow
dreams of
a cherry tree
where purple
earrings grow.
Gordana dreams of her Subotinac,
of Filip, Ana, and that purple
love of theirs.
Gordana dwells
in our poems
that delicate scent of love spread.
Gordana,
the name of love
for purple poems
to blossom.
So today, in this poem,
for Gordana only,
a dress of blue skies I’ve made
and in a cherry blossom bunch,
I tucked some barefoot butterflies
with a couple of loves,
and left it on a far away star.
There is a purple world,
in Subotinac,
made of Gordana’s love
and hearts that beat blue and white
under an umbrella for two, like a flower,
amidst grass, fresh with dew.
Out of Gordana’s love
boys and girls grow,
while dreaming of strange birds
with purple chirrup ,
and an occasional swallow
and yellow-haired sunflowers.
So today, in this poem,
for Gordana only,
a hat of heavens I’ve made
a butterfly as a ribbon,
with a pair of daybreak shoes
and cherries as earrings
to quiver in the breeze.
Today
I tasted a purple kiss,
under her cherry tree…
Maybe, right now, somewhere in the heavens,
Gordana writes poems about me…
