Savremena Gimnazija, as part of the LINKgroup educational system, has had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus+ project LEAF. The project's goal is the development of an innovative methodology for engaging students in the community in order to monitor plant biodiversity, in accordance with the principles of service learning.
In the Erasmus+ project LEAF, along with LINKgroup, schools and non-governmental organisations from Croatia, Romania, France, Greece and Italy are also participating. Over the next two years, working together, all six countries will be striving to achieve the goals of this project through project tasks.
Students become active participants in the teaching process
One of the project tasks was the acquisition of the WE-LAB. WE-LAB is a small portable laboratory that includes a microscope and spectrometer, which students will use in practical lessons. This innovative product has its own internet platform that allows students to build their own laboratory for analysis and create scientific projects simply and interactively using modern technologies. Users can share their experiences and the results of scientific research with all members of the WE-LAB application through the portal. In this way, they can connect online with other schools and scientific institutions and compare the results of their research.
Working in this laboratory, students, during biology classes, through their own research, experiments and projects, arrive at scientific answers. Instead of being passive recipients of knowledge, they become active participants in the teaching process. In this way, they enhance their laboratory and digital skills. We look forward to the future use of this small portable laboratory in everyday teaching.
