Students from Savremena Gimnazija, Andrea Stojko, Luka Radovanović and Nađa Al Said, had the honour of participating in the event "Climate Change and Youth – who will be faster". This event took place on 27 October in Belgrade as part of Youth Week, with the support of the EU Delegation in Serbia. The idea behind this gathering was to hear the opinions of young people on climate change, whether they are sufficiently involved in related activities and how their role could be enhanced and improved.
The first part of the event was organised as a panel discussion conducted in the Serbian language. The panel included Aleksandra Mladenović, the president of the organisation "Ambassadors of Sustainable Development and the Environment" and Antoine Avignon, a representative of the European Union Delegation in Serbia. In this part, Eco School students presented their projects and activities related to climate change.
Gaining experience in public speaking, developing debating skills and exchanging opinions on important issues with their peers
Following this part, there was a debate in English. Representatives of our school in the debate were Andrea Stojko and Luka Radovanović. The debate was structured as a clash of young minds, with some arguing that young people can influence changes in the impact of climate change, while others believed they could not. In this debate, alongside students from Savremena Gimnazija, participants were also students from International School, as well as students from VII Belgrade Gymnasium and the International American School. The debate participants demonstrated a high level of awareness regarding the importance of mitigating the further effects of climate change.
As a school, it is particularly significant for us to provide our students with the opportunity not only to show their knowledge in subjects such as biology or global perspectives but also to do so in English, gain experience in public speaking, develop debating skills and exchange opinions on important issues with their peers.
