On 5 November, Iva Todorović, a student from Savremena Gimnazija, achieved outstanding results at the Serbian Karate Championship. She won a gold medal in team competitions and a silver medal in individual fights. With this significant success, along with her previously achieved results, Iva qualified for the Balkan Karate Championship. On 18 November, representing the Republic of Serbia in the cadet category, she achieved notable results in that competition. Thanks to her tireless work and effort, Iva will compete in the Youth League in Venice on 8 December.

Karate comforted me when I was sad, calmed me when I felt restless

Iva Todorović has been practising karate since the age of five. She has over 120 medals and trophies and has been a member of the Serbian national team for several years.

Through years of training this sport, I've had many victories and defeats and from that, I've learned a lot and drawn important life lessons. Even if I don't always win one of the top three places in a competition, participation alone is a significant experience that motivates me to be even better next time.

When asked what karate means to her and why she chose this sport to dedicate herself to, Iva said,

Since I was a kid, I wanted to learn martial arts. My father took me to my first karate lesson without my mother's knowledge. From that moment, I fell in love with this sport. It comforted me when I was sad, calmed me when I felt restless and diverted my thoughts from everyday problems. Over time, this sport became a part of my personality and contributed to the development of my character!

We congratulate Iva on her extraordinary achievements and we eagerly await her future successes

In addition to being a successful athlete, Iva is an excellent and exemplary student of class I-5. She is a scholarship holder at Savremena Gimnazija, the president of the homeroom community and a participant in humanitarian and many different activities and events organised by the school.

We would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Iva on her extraordinary achievements and we eagerly await her future successes!

The students from Savremena Gimnazija have once again shown that if the desire is strong enough, it is entirely possible to balance school and extracurricular activities and achieve excellent results in both fields.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
