Winner of the school competition, Sofija Ivković, will represent Savremena Gimnazija at the Serbian Philosophy Olympiad

For the second consecutive year, Savremena Gimnazija held a school competition in the subject of philosophy. Philosophy competitions are more specific compared to competitions in other subjects, as there are no municipal, city, and regional levels in this case. The representative of Serbia at the International Philosophy Olympiad is chosen at the Serbian Philosophy Olympiad, and participants face a very demanding task, considering that a thorough knowledge of philosophy and literary skills are not the only criteria deciding the winner. Due to the international nature of the competition, essays are written in English and in digital format.

Given the significant interest of Savremena high school students in the Serbian Philosophy Olympiad, philosophy teachers Marica Đurić and Slobodan Rodić organized the school competition. The first place in the competition, and thus the privilege of representing Savremena Gimnazija at the Serbian Philosophy Olympiad, was won by the graduating student and student of class IV-2, Sofija Ivković. Through her work, she demonstrated an above-average understanding of the history of philosophy, as well as great philosophical insight in her way of thinking. Interestingly, Sofija won second place in last year's competition, indicating her progress and desire to excel in this scientific discipline. Second place was won by Ksenija Turčinović, a student of class II-5, and third place by Sofija Tutunović, also a student of class II-5.

Savremena has talented students ready to showcase their knowledge and abilities at the international level

Each of the distinguished works has a specific approach and a different perspective on the same topic. Each fulfilled the assigned form, yet was technically constructed differently. All students demonstrated outstanding knowledge of philosophy and English grammar, as well as a highly developed ability for critical thinking.

The opportunity to participate in this event was also given to Savremena first graders, as part of the activities of the philosophical section. Not only did they become acquainted with the competition process, but they also began preparations for this competition when they reach higher grades.

This competition showed that Savremena Gimnazija has very talented students who are ready to tackle demanding tasks and showcase their knowledge and abilities at the international level. We thank all the students for their participation, and we wish Sofija the best of luck and success on March 16, when she will compete for the first place in Serbia!

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
