Accompanied by their Latin teacher, Natalija Stanković, second-grade students had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Romans and their period of dominance over Singidunum, now known as Belgrade, at the very historical site - Kalemegdan. This class was an exceptional opportunity for students to learn directly from historical remains.
In addition to visiting Kalemegdan, students also toured the Roman Hall of the Belgrade City Library, where they had the opportunity to further acquaint themselves with Roman history and culture. During the tour of the Belgrade Fortress, students familiarized themselves not only with Roman history but also with the significance of other periods, including the time under Turkish rule, as well as with the Monument of Gratitude to France, the Military Museum, the Exhibition of Medieval Torture Devices, and the Roman Well.
Interactive Activities: Involvement of Savremena Gimnazija Students and Teachers in the Event
During their time at Kalemegdan, students participated in various activities including collage making, quizzes, video material preparation, and intensive research. This interactive approach enabled students not only to acquire new knowledge but also to actively participate in the learning process.
Ambient or field education, such as this one at Kalemegdan, plays a crucial role in the educational process as it allows students to apply and expand theoretical knowledge in a real environment. Learning on-site not only increases students' motivation and interest but also teaches them practical skills through teamwork and collaboration. This approach, known as a classroom without walls, contributes to better understanding and memorization of learned material, and develops critical thinking skills and independent research.
The initiative to implement such classes is extremely important as it allows students to firsthand experience and understand the historical contexts that shape our culture and identity, which is an irreplaceable component of the overall educational experience.
