First-year students of Savremena on a treasure hunt at Kalemegdan
The first week of the new school year at Savremena, now traditionally, was marked by engaging lessons in the "classroom without walls". In this way, Savremena Gimnazija continues to be an inspiring environment that fosters the creativity and academic development of its students even outside the classroom.
After the first day of school and getting to know their new school, the first-year students of Savremena Gimnazija had the opportunity to experience school life as early as Monday.
Through an interesting combination of logical and physical games with their teachers, the students used maps and riddles to uncover clues and step by step get closer to the hidden treasure. Their walk around Kalemegdan was enriched by new knowledge about the Belgrade Fortress, the history of Kalemegdan, and Belgrade. The students received answers from their teachers to questions about unusual details from the rich history of the Serbian capital, thus enhancing their knowledge and opening numerous topics and questions for discussion.
Second-year students on a tour around Topčider and Hyde Park
Topčider Park is the oldest park in Belgrade and Serbia. It stands out as an important location that was once the gathering centre of Belgrade citizens – the site where the famous Residence of Prince Miloš Obrenović is located.
The students of Savremena Gimnazija had the opportunity to learn some new historical facts during a walking tour of Topčider, enjoy a beautiful day in nature, and hear instructive stories about one of Belgrade's most beautiful parks, as well as about the Residence of Prince Miloš Obrenović, the monument Mašin Majdan, and other lesser-known attractions in this part of the city.
Through socialising in Hyde Park, students practised orienteering with their teachers and used their knowledge to successfully reach the set goal. The second-year students were divided into eight groups. Each student received a map of Hyde Park and points (real and false locations) on the map where teachers (eight of them) awaited with tasks, puzzles, and various games.
The task for the students was to visit all the locations where the teachers were and return to the starting point with the points they had collected.
The winners were those with the most points, meaning those who were excellent at orienting themselves in space, solving the tasks, and demonstrating certain skills and abilities.
It was important to function as a team, which they successfully did.
All in all, it was an inspiring and pleasant gathering! They went home full of impressions, commenting that it was the best day they had, and they expressed gratitude for such a day. The teachers also enjoyed themselves!
Third-year students of Savremena at the "Jevremovac" Botanical Garden
The third-year students of Savremena Gimnazija visited the "Jevremovac" Botanical Garden, a true oasis in the city centre. The Japanese Garden, which the students had the opportunity to visit, left a strong impression on them, and during the tour of "Jevremovac," they heard stories about various plant species and enjoyed their beauty.
Fourth-year students in the Zemun race
The fourth-year students of Savremena Gimnazija participated in the Zemun race. Gardoš, Madlenianum, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Air Force Command Building, and several other landmarks served as points that students reached after correctly answering the given riddle, with each correct answer bringing them closer to the goal.
This activity, modelled after the global event The Amazing Race, strengthened team spirit among the students, entertained them, and taught them a great deal.
Sports day at Ada for all Savremena students
Besides mental exercise, physical activities in nature are equally important for the students of Savremena. Along with their physical education and health teachers and homeroom teachers, Savremena students spent a day at Ada, where they demonstrated their readiness, skills, and abilities.
They tried their hand at various disciplines such as football, handball, volleyball, basketball, and more. The sports day was extremely engaging for all students, whether they were giving their best in competition or supporting their friends as enthusiastic spectators.
