Students from the third and fourth grades of Savremena Gimnazija visited the "Heavenly Vertical" exhibition, organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Beograđanka, once the tallest building in Belgrade. Initiated by Serbian language and literature teacher Zorana Putniković and with the generous help and support of Dragana Mladenović from "Alta Labs", the students had the opportunity to explore this exhibition, learn fascinating facts, and enjoy a unique view of Belgrade from the observation deck, briefly open to the public years ago.
During the visit, Dragana Mladenović and Jovana Tomić, the project manager, guided the students through the exhibition, revealing intriguing details about the history and symbolism of Beograđanka. They learned about its construction, the reactions of Belgrade’s citizens to the creation of the "Black Lady", and the artworks that once adorned its interior. The students were particularly surprised by the story of two men named Branko Pešić – one the architect who designed the building and the other the mayor who supported the project’s realisation.
The stories about the restaurant and club that once occupied the 5th and 6th floors, as well as the fountain still present in front of the building, captivated the students. The visit offered a chance to enjoy a breathtaking view of Belgrade from the building's top and to delve into the vibrant history of the location where their school now stands.
