A lecture in Savremena International School on the occasion of the World Aids Day

Recently, the Savremena International School celebrated the International Day of Tolerance. On that occasion both the school’s learning support consultant and the psychologist organised a workshop which aimed at raising awareness of our students towards some groups or ethnic minorities. The result of the aforesaid workshop demonstrated a high level of intolerance of Savremena’s students towards HIV patients.

Thus, recognising the need to educate its students in the realm of mental hygiene, Savremena School paid special attention to celebrating the World Aids Day. The Director of the MEDIGROUP Community Health Centre ‘Bulevar’, Dr. Saša Božović, who is an expert in infectious diseases, gave a talk focusing on this particular topic.

What did our students learn from this lecture?

All the students of Savremena International School attended a lecture on 1st of December whose primary goal was to inform them in more detail about the HIV virus, the ways to protect themselves, but above all to develop empathy for those infected by the virus.

Dr. Božović explained to the students all kinds of treatment methods available today as well as that it was possible to live to a ripe old age if the disease is kept under control. Drugs for patients with this diagnosis are expensive. However, the treatment costs are covered by our social health care.

Being aware of a risky behaviour

The lecture on this topic aimed at clarifying any doubts the students of Savremena may have had regarding the ways of transmitting or treating Aids. The students understood what kind of behaviour puts them in risk of contaging the virus as well as what kind of situations are perfectly safe without any fear or risk of getting infected. This knowledge is fundamental in surpassing barriers towards people living with this virus.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
