Presentation of Savremena International School’s students in the Museum of African Art

On Saturday, 28 November, our students visited the exhibition entitled “The border is closed” in the Museum of African Art. Especially for this opportunity, they prepared a short film and a presentation about the oldest residential area in Belgrade.

The aim of the exhibition

The exhibition “The border is closed” in the organisation of “Group 484” and art group “Skart” dedicated to the current migration problems. The aim of this exhibition was to present the problems that migrants face on their long and dangerous road from the countries from Middle East to western Europe. Apart from the exhibition, the organisers also designed a series of accompanying activities such as workshops, discussions, and various other elements.

Within this project, the students of Savremena International School assembled interesting materials about the oldest residential area in 10 Cara Dusana Street. The aim of the project is to present the oldest Belgrade houses and use this example to show how migrations, that are usually caused by wars and political turmoils, make an effect on the creation of specific cultures.

Research

The unique idea of our history teacher, Sanja Bogdanovic, to use this example of the oldest residential object in Belgrade to keep track of migrations, is the idea that astonished the organisers. Our students Nikoleta Djorovic, Ana Petrovic and Martin Ivanovic, together with Marko Radojkovic and Milica Smiljanic completed this project successfully.

Their road to the presentation of the project involved excellent preparation - researching, gathering data, designing a questionnaire, interviewing passers-by, making the presentation and editing the material in LINKeduTV’s studio.

This way of work complemented to our student’s experience provided them with new information that expand their lessons in school. Everybody agreed that working on the project was exhausting, but also challenging, considering the fact that they hadn’t had the opportunity to do anything similar or face such requests in the past.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
