At the DigiArt workshop, students expressed their creativity and learned how to edit photos, animate cartoon characters and shoot magnificent short films.

For an entire week, students were able to make friends and spend time with their peers, exchange creative ideas, attend a well-designed programme and use an excellent set of applications as they learned how to design a logo and a poster, draw their favourite cartoon or comic-book character in 3D and create a stop-motion animation.

Discussing art and culture in the OKenglish workshop

6In order to improve their English language skills and expand their vocabulary, students talked about the media in the fun OKenglish workshop. In that they explored different filmmaking techniques, learned about the characteristics of different genres, tried their hand at writing a script, acting and they determined the camera-shots and angles.

On the second day, students discussed cultural differences and the organisation and celebration of festivals around the world. At the end of the week, they talked about shopping and consumerism which enabled them to add modern phrases and expressions to their every-day vocabulary. The film Confessions of a shopaholic was used as an additional learning resource.

The exciting world of science revealed at WoWscience

Students who love chemistry, biology and other natural sciences had a great time conducting interesting experiments and researching natural phenomena at the Wowscience workshop.

16Here, in a highly practical way, they learned more about light and waves. In that, they constructed a periscope from recycled materials. To expand their knowledge in biology, students learned about evolution and the digestive system, gave presentations on endangered species and wrote the questions for the Kahoot quiz.

Students were particularly impressed and intrigued by the “elephant toothpaste”, “genie in a bottle” and “lava lamp” experiments as well as by the detective game where they, with the help of experts, had to find the culprit by isolating their DNA from their oral cavity.

One of the most exciting classes was when students put their cooperation and creativity to the test by building a tall construction form spaghetti, string and sellotape. This exercise was actually part of a global challenge called “The Marshmallow Challenge” whose aim is to test the resourcefulness, readiness, creativity, collaboration and leadership skills of its participants.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
