ISS students donate books to their peers in Gornja Toplica

Savremena’s students visited “Milan Rakić” Primary School in Gornja Toplica on Wednesday, 19 October, and donated books collected during the humanitarian campaign “A book for a friend” to the school’s library.

School library at “Milan Rakić” receives hundreds of new books

When they learned that the library at “Milan Rakić was inadequate and that this primary school in Gornja Toplica was calling for donations in books, Savremena’s students joined forces in another humanitarian campaign, symbolically called ”A book for a friend”. The library at “Milan Rakić” included only 600 books, few of which were either clear or interesting to children, due to the prevailing adult-oriented or highly specialised subject matter.

In only one week, ISS students managed to collect heaps of books that will make their peers’ childhood more beautiful with new discoveries and interesting stories. Savremena’s students were supported by their teachers, who also joined the campaign.

New friendships in the books

Savremena’s students’ objective was not to merely collect books; they also wanted to meet the students of “Milan Rakić, and talk to them in person about their wishes and needs. All this made for a great Wednesday for students and teachers alike.

As Savremena’s bus was setting off for Gornja Toplica, the students were excited about new friendships awaiting them at their destination, and the moment they stepped into “Milan Rakić” Primary School, they realised they had many things in common with the students there. Although they are used to numerous benefits of this era of digital technologies, Savremena’s students also greatly appreciate books and their role in knowledge expansion, and it was a pleasure for them to meet peers who feel the same.

Among the values cherished by Savremena International School, knowledge never stands alone; it is a virtue inseparable from other things that make life better, among which friendship is one of the most important. Once more, Savremena was proud of its students, whose donation showed their awareness of the fact that when shared, knowledge only grows.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
