Spooky Halloween Workshops

Since the scariest night of the year is always the students’ favourite, International School Savremena put the creativity mode on and organised the Pumpkin Carving Workshop and the Headdress Making Workshop. Both workshops took place in the school restaurant due to the number of interested students.

Pumpkin Carving Workshop

The tradition of carving faces into vegetables dates to the Celts. As part of their autumnal celebration, they wanted to light the way to their homes for the good spirits, so they carved faces into vegetables such as turnips and squash.

Carving pumpkins is the best way for students to show their creativity and crafting skills. They were thrilled, but at the same time they were surprised by how hard it is to carve a pumpkin. Their creativity was “on point” and in the end we had scary pumpkins, Kitten pumpkin, Pacman pumpkin… It was messy, the students were busy and focused, they worked in teams and had a hella good time.

Headdress Making Workshop

A headdress is a beautiful piece of art. They have a grand history as they were used to symbolise bravery. Now they are a fashion statement and are used in carnivals and also as part of interior decoration.

Design and Technology Teacher decided to introduce some drama with the Headdress Making Workshop. The students were encouraged to get creative and independently design their piece. The materials used were common household items, with the idea of demonstrating that expression is available without professional art supplies. The students were enthusiastic to create these as a part of their Halloween costumes, and cooperated, assisting each other in both ideas and practical tasks.

Since they had plenty of ideas but not enough time, they will meet again next week to finish what they started.

We could probably say that this week was artistic. In the authentic premises of International School Savremena, with Halloween decorations all over the place and eyeball candy, we are saying goodbye to this festivity. Until next year. Treat or trick, freak!

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
