Exploring French cuisine

Year 10 students who attend French lessons at International School Savremena enjoyed a lesson devoted to French cuisine with their teacher Marija Panić. It was quite a unique lesson since they didn’t just talk about French food – they tasted it as well.

Delicious cheese and sweet macarons

The students tasted the French Roquefort and Camembert cheeses with a baguette, Orangina and the moelleux au citron cake made according to a traditional recipe. They also listened to a report on the traditional process of producing cheeses with protected designation of origin (AOP).

In the following lesson, the students brought something that they like, something sweet and tasty – can you guess what? They brought French macarons, of course. It filled their soul with a warm, fuzzy feeling after just one bite.

Together they participated in a discussion about different cultural influences on typical French meals.

The love for food

French cuisine is a heavenly amalgamation of culture, tradition, sophistication and, perhaps above all, a love for food. The French look beyond the ingredients and techniques that go into creating a rich blend of flavours. For them, it’s a way of life.

The French cuisine developed throughout the centuries under the influence of Spanish, Italian, Swiss, German and Belgian cultures. In the 17th century, chefs Francois Pierre La Varenne and Marie-Antoine Careme spearheaded movements that shifted French cooking away from its foreign influences and developed France's own indigenous style.

It’s safe to say that this was a tasty lesson. International School Savremena’s students enjoyed sampling food and hearing about one of the most famous and most praised cuisines in the world.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
