Aja Jung
The Director of the National Foundation for Dance, Aja Jung, is a ballerina dedicated to spreading the culture of dance, not only in Serbia but also worldwide. This is exactly why she was selected to be the guest of honour at the Milano Danza Expo and a member of the jury at the international ballet competition in Milan.
Having graduated from the Lujo Davičo Ballet School, under the mentorship of Marija Janković, Aja achieved great success in her dance career by winning a full two-year scholarship for the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. She worked on various projects for the Neubert Ballet Institute at Carnegie Hall and the Broadway Dance Center. Upon returning to Belgrade, Aja started her independent dancing career by starring in four full-length productions: Ophelia in the Mirror; Me, Medusa; Zelle and The Story of Josephine Baker. The shows she produces, stars and guest-stars in have gained worldwide success.
In 2003 Aja founded the Belgrade Dance Festival, setting up the standards of contemporary dance and theatre aesthetics by presenting world-class dance performances. Belgrade was thus put on the map for performance-art connoisseurs, providing great support for local dancers, coaches, choreographers and talented young ballet dancers.
