On Wednesday, 11 May 2022, the students of II-5 and II-6 classes, who learn Spanish, could listen and learn more about Columbus’s discovery of America, first in English and then in Spanish.
The special guest was Guillermo Alamo, the physical and health education teacher from the Canary Islands who visited Savremena Secondary school as a part of activities within Erasmus+ KA122 - SCH project Routes between IES César Manrique and the 21st century Europe.
At the beginning of the class, teacher Sanja introduced the topic and provided some historical facts on the discovery of America, which was followed by activities through an educational app Quizzlet. Then, students could listen to teacher Milica talking about the same topic in Spanish. During this part of the lesson, the students analysed an Instagram page devoted to Columbus, searching for words and extending their vocabulary.
Guillermo Alamo speaks about Hispanism Day
Our guest Guillermo took active participation in the lesson and shared his thoughts on Hispanism Day, which is observed on 12 October in the memory of the discovery of America. He told us how that day is celebrated in Spain.
