Michael Gregory, a science professor from France, who visited our school at the beginning of the school year, found himself in Serbia again, performing at the Science Festival.
Bearing in mind that he has good relations with his colleagues from Savremena Gimnazija, he gladly agreed to come to Savremena before the festival and show some interesting experiments to the first-grade students attending the Combined Programme.
Students realised that science is all around them
So on Wednesday, 3 May, Professor Gregory shared with our students some experiments concerning pressure and the Bernoulli effect, sound and resonance, and electric charge.
Students actively participated in the demonstration, posed hypotheses and answered the professor's questions. In this way, the students realised that science is all around them and that it can explain many phenomena from everyday life.
Linguistic importance of this lecture
In addition to the scientific aspect, this event also had linguistic importance, because the students attending the Combined Programme had the opportunity to listen to a native English speaker since Professor Michael Gregory is from Canada. They listened to scientific concepts in English, understood and followed the instructions and asked and answered questions, which was also an excellent exercise in applying knowledge of a foreign language.
We hope to organise a similar event next year with the same or new guests from abroad or from our country, and until then, we invite all students to share with us some interesting experiments they have heard about.
