The selection process for our faculty took a while not because the procedure itself is slow, but because we aimed for the very best – the teachers, as Einstein  said, who are able s to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. In a nutshell, our teachers are demanding but fair. Each student selects a mentor at the beginning of a school year, one of the teachers who they connect to and who they feel emotionally secure with. The mentor acts as a liaison between the parents and the school – parents can call on them whenever they have questions about their child’s process of fitting into the educational and social parameters set by Savremena International School.

• Innovative teaching approach

Although we are largely traditional in the pedagogic sense, from a methodological standpoint our lessons are highly innovative and advanced in a number of ways. Teachers, although strict and demanding, stimulate interactivity in the classroom, allowing students to take the initiative and feed their talents. Every theoretical element of a lesson also has its practical application, so that the students’ acquisition of knowledge is complementary in that regard. In addition to the traditional classroom lessons, students are also granted access to our virtual learning environment, which contains online courses as well as additional material for those who wish to know more. By using IT in and out of the classroom, we develop the children’s digital literacy, while our various clubs and workshops prepare them for the life skills, which are as important as knowledge itself in this ever-changing world of ours.

• Bilingual programme

At our school, students can choose between a teaching programme in English or in Serbian, selecting either the Serbian National or Cambridge International curriculum. For students interested in attending our international programme but lacking the language proficiency, we organise a special preparatory course included in our Mix package. The choice you make at the beginning will determine whether your child will get a national or an international diploma at the end of their secondary education. If they are ambitious enough, obtaining both diplomas is also possible.

• Modern space for studying and socialising

The modern five-floor building in downtown Belgrade offers the most advanced teaching aids, good lighting conditions, ergonomically designed seats and interactive whiteboards. International School Savremena provides a cosy area where students can relax, chat and enjoy among friends when the lessons are over. They can use the school canteen for lunch or relaxing during recess. If, however, the student wants to spend some free time working or reading, there are state-of-the-art IT rooms and library in Serbian and English.

• Security in the school and its surroundings

In a time when children are faced with a multitude of challenges, our school vowed to keep all challenges safe and morally appropriate where your child’s stay at International School Savremena is concerned. That is why our security system allows our school’s security staff to follow the movement of students within the school and its immediate surroundings. Each student must scan the personal ID card when entering and exiting the building, and the students are required to check in with the mentor if they have to leave the school early for any reason. Parents can track their child’s attendance in electronic log book, and they are required to let the mentor know whenever their child is unable to attend lessons.
