Safer Internet Day

On 9 February, Savremena Gimnazija celebrated an international event – Safer Internet Day – through various activities dedicated to this event via eTwinning platform.

The event was realised in collaboration with the secondary school Dante Alighieri from Catania, after our Latin teacher, Natalija Stanković, contacted a teacher of the Italian school, Alessandra Costanzo, and agreed on the mode of cooperation on this task.

Students were introduced to the main dangers that lurk online, and the most effective mechanisms of protection on the Internet in class.

Students of Savremena gimnazija participated in a number of interesting project tasks

Teachers Darko Tmušić and Marija Pilčević Tomašević realised the following project tasks as part of the program Individual, Group and Society, and the course Language, Media and Culture:

  • Creating flyers on CANVA platform designed to send a clear message to the younger population about what they need to pay attention to, and who to ask for help.
  • Creating comics in Pixton.
  • Creating online jigsaw puzzles with a background poster in Jigsaw Planet application.
  • Introducing students to the online game Safe on the Internet, created as a result of the project Safety and Responsibility, realised in cooperation between Tijana Jurić Foundation and Telenor Foundation. The aim of this project was to inform children and adolescents about the dangers lurking on the Internet, but also to advise them on how to protect themselves.
  • Designing a website.

In Serbian Language and Literature classes, teacher Ivana Mirović helped students to create messages some of which were posted on the websites designed specifically for this purpose, and on thematic posters.

Students of II-1 class, Aleksandra Mosurović and Mihailo Marjanović were particularly creative, designing a game/brain-teaser that includes the most common problems that the youngest population may encounter online.

Students of the II-2 class, Milica Milutinović and Barbara Stojanović designed online jigsaw puzzles which you can see here:  puzzle1, puzzle 2, puzzle3.

By observing Safer Internet Day, Savremena Gimnazija aims to promote safe use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies and tools, with special emphasis on appropriate content selection and safety, thus raising awareness of the usefulness of modern technologies, but also risks that must be taken into account in the youngest population.

I am extremely pleased and proud to be the parent of a Savremena student. During my first encounter with the school management, when I asked about my child’s potential enrolment, I saw how much love, enthusiasm and professionalism you put in your work. I was impressed by your approach, ideas and methods. I couldn’t believe something like this existed in our country! It doesn’t take long to realise that this is a school you would recommend to everyone. Creativity, modern technology, top-quality education, and most of all, the humaneness that can be seen throughout the school, make it truly different and worthy of its name – Savremena Gimnazija. With such an approach, the success of this school and, consequently, our children’s success, is unavoidable. Congratulations! Jelena Đorđević, Andrija’s mum
Contemporary in any sense of the word, our school offers functional knowledge and quality preparation for tertiary education in Serbia and abroad. Implementing modern and creative teaching in the classroom, where the teachers’ pedagogy and students’ performance are aligned with the highest academic standards for the high-school finals, our school develops linguistic, mathematical, scientific, artistic, cultural, technical and ICT competence, which is a prerequisite for further education and professional development. Teaching is supported by the interactive whiteboards and educational software, whereas practice exercises research and critical thinking.
